SAM (Speed Awareness Monitor) Trailers

Plymouth Township has received Traffic safety awards throughout the years for our efforts in reducing traffic crashes. This is the primary goal of traffic enforcement. If you are a Plymouth Township resident, you may have seen one of the two SAM trailers that the police department uses to assist in combating speeding vehicles and to remind daydreaming drivers to watch their speed.

The SAM (Speed Awareness Monitor) Trailers can be used in neighborhoods, school zones, construction sites, dangerous areas, or any other appropriate location to help promote compliance with the speed limit.

· Note: The SAM trailer is NOT for freeway use (I-275 and M-14).Speed trailer pic for website(1)

The SAM Trailer is a portable, self-contained speed display unit that is towed to the desired location. It is placed on the side of roadway to displays speeds of oncoming vehicles on a highly visible LED display. A speed limit sign mounted on the unit reminds drivers what the actual speed limit is on the road that they are on. The unit also has the capability to record the speed data it has collected during its deployment.. If you live in Plymouth Township and feel that you have a problem with speeding vehicles in your neighborhood, you are encouraged to contact Plymouth Township Police Department Sgt. Fritz and request the SAM Trailer be scheduled in your area. Deployment from resident requests will occur in the order in which they are received.
