Pic-Services-Park-RockwellPortraitThe Plymouth Township Parks and Recreation Department oversees the maintenance and day-to-day activities at Plymouth Township Park. Township Park, located at 46640 Ann Arbor Trail just east of Beck road, consists of 80 acres. The park offers four sheltered gathering places, walking paths, children’s PlayScape area, ADA Playscape area, fishing pond and dock, local youth baseball plays on four baseball diamonds, and sledding during the winter months. The park is adjacent to an 18-hole golf course, owned by the Township. The Township has also built a dock to enable handicapped access to the pond. The SprayScape water feature, designed and created in cooperation with the youth of the community, opened in 2003 and has been a popular attraction with local families. While you are at the Park take note of the Rockwell Sculptures located adjacent to the SprayScape. Peter Rockwell, (in photo) son of the famous artist Norman Rockwell, spent the spring of 1986 at the park holding classes and sculpting the “friendly monsters”. This effort was funded through donations and pledges from local families and businesses.

Additional ParksPic-Services-MillerPark5
Although the Township Park is the largest park, we also have the Lake Pointe Soccer Park located on Haggerty Road between Five Mile and Schoolcraft Roads. This premier soccer park houses two irrigated soccer fields, a shelter available for reservation and a playground area. For those of you in the Lake Pointe and Robinson Subdivision areas we have smaller, neighborhood walk-in parks; Brentwood Park, located on Brentwood Drive in the Lake Pointe Subdivision and Miller Family park, located on Ann Arbor Trail in the Robinson Subdivision. They have large play areas including swings and lawn areas.

Do you know why you shouldn’t feed ducks and geese, how wetlands help the environment or how native plants help to support stream banks? As you walk along the pathways please take note of the interpretive signs that line them. These signs tell of the natural surroundings of the park including information on the creek, pond and wildlife that live and visit our Township Park.  Be sure to check out the new nature trail at the north end of Plymouth Township Park.
